Had an afternoon spare on Friday so managed to sneak out down the canal to cast a line. I've heard rumours that the big Pike are starting to feed, now that the mental weather has slowed and it's cooling down all of a sudden. Unfortunately it wasn't a lump but it did get me off the mark! - http://coarsefishingpaul.blogspot.com/

Morning,

Fished a new venue yesterday. I'd asked locally for details but didnt really get much of a reply so a tackled it with a maggot feeder and then a waggler. The ice on the lake for most of the day meant that it was going to be a tough one, but I caught a steady stream of a small roach in the end for a few pounds. You can read the full details here - http://coarsefishingpaul.blogspot.com/

Have any of you guys ever fished it?

Thanks.

Evening,

Due to the disastrous weather this weekend my ideas of fishing were scuppered, so I walked my local river and found some pegs (which now the weeds have died away) look like amazing virgin fishing ground and could be fished both on the fly and using good old conventional coarse tactics. In my last session I caught a nice trout (even though I was after Chub) and lost something even bigger (Have a read here - http://coarsefishingpaul.blogspot.com/ )

When the weather finally calms down I’m going to give the new pegs a good go for Chub. Anyone have advice on baits for picking up the more specimen fish? Most people around here who I see fishing the river recommend worm, but I’m after the daddies (and I rarely see them catching). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

My favourite bait for a big chub is a big fresh dead minnow on a size 6 fished through the upper and lower jaws, kill them first because if you fish them live on a leger they just dive under stones and hide

Evening all,

Just got a new post online. Was a really tough venue this week, first blank in a long time, was a bit of a lesson in humility, but managed to get a reasonable and useful review of the suit I received for Christmas, now that I have put it through it's paces.

Have a look and let me know what you think - http://coarsefishingpaul.blogspot.com/

When I arrived at the venue was quite concerned that the lake I was fishing held any fish at all as it couldn't be much larger than a glorified duck pond, but people were fishing around the edges so I gave it a whirl and had an afternoon of solid silver fish bashing. If anyone is after an easy afternoons sport in West Yorkshire give Spring End farm a go. Plenty of fish of all sizes. You can read the full report here - http://coarsefishingpaul.blogspot.com/
