At LLandudno Magistrates Court on Tuesday (16/11/04) four men were successfully prosecuted for fishing for trout, freshwater fish or eels by means of an unlicensed rod and line contrary to Section 27(a) of the Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries Act 1975 (SAFFA ’75), in cases brought by Environment Agency Wales.
Daniel Gee of Runcorn Road, Barnton, Northwich, Gary Hood of Townfield Lane, Barnton, Northwich and Gavin Patrick Kelly of Llewelyns Estate, Denbigh all pleaded guilty by letter. They were fined £50 each and ordered to each pay £60 in costs.
Darren James of High Street, Denbigh had his case proved in absence. He was fined £75 with costs of £85.
All four men were seen fishing for trout at Tan y Mynydd, Abergele on 3 May 2004.
Following the cases an Agency spokesperson commented: "Those who choose to fish without first buying a rod licence, or those who have in their possession a licensable instrument, with the intention to fish, are depriving the Agency, and licensed anglers of income that would be re-invested in improving fishing. Our enforcement officers will continue to carry out checks, and the Agency will prosecute offenders as necessary."
