on the subject of far north ponds bear park is quite a up and coming fishery and the owner is thinking of extending the lake so give it a go.
they are two ponds at the A19 NEAR testos roundabout past nissan contains big carp and the usual species,i dont know who owns the water ive never been bothered but iot used to fish really well.
little burn golf course at brancepeth village has a duck pond which the estate manager opens for a few months of the year, its reported to be crammed with millions of bream, but again i dont know anyone whos fished it legaly.
driveing past the brancepeth pond and taking the next left hand turn for spennymoor and pagebank, drive along the road for a mile or two crosing the river wear {fly only water} and then coming to shaftoes pond {as in bobby shaftoe} on the left hand side of the road, this venue holds the record "Minnow" ;D.
Staying in the same sort of area a short drive from shaftoes and you could be at the e/a carp fishery at escombe or whitton le wear i think one of the two,the fishery has some fantastic carp in there, and for the barbel angler the river wear behind the fishery has some of the biggest barbel in the river wear swiming about there

traveling south on the A19 heading for thirsk take the second thirsk turn off,and take  a left as soon as yer come off the sliproad yer will see a set of greenhouses on yer left handside {wilgrow} jus at the end of the greenhopuses they is a layby, might be some gypsys staying there perhaps, right in the middle of the layby they is a gap which leads into a caravan park, yer cant miss the pond its right in front of yer,a day ticket venue if the owner can be bothered to collect a fee, full of tench up to about 3 lb (my pb) from there.as well as the usuall course species

Just noticed this thread about Elton - Im glad you have had 20lbers out Trav-
I have been a member of the syndicate along with several others and in 18 years not one of us has seen one.

Get caught fishing it by myself and I will feed you to the carp ;)

another good peg used to be a pond we all called "penkies" comeing into sadberge from stockton turn right towards the rspca place i think,so far down the road on the right hand side is some xmas trees,on the left directly opposite is a fone box and a drive leading to his two ponds,so far down the track is a gate or a fence jus over the gate is pond one walk towards it and yerl see pond 2 the bigger one, these ponds were stocked once over with big rainbows and some browns, the rainbows went to over the 15lb mark and the browns were only upto 3 lbs ish,ive heard a rumour that its now a carp syndicate, weather this is true or not i dont know-but it used to be popular back in the 80s -90s with poachers from far and wide-not for quantity but for quality fighting, something which i consider rare when it comes to rainbow trout in this country :o
